School Counseling Department
The elementary school counselor can be seen in a variety of roles, some of which are noted below. The school counselors at Chipperfield Elementary can be reached by dialing (570) 424-9280, you can fax documents directly to the guidance office at (570) 421-0424. The counselors are available and ready to assist students, parents, staff, and our community agencies to promote social, academic, and behavior success for our students.

Role within Chipperfield Elementary
Communication
- Meet with students, parents, staff, community agencies
- Follow-up requests/inquiries
- Coordinate referrals
Organizational and Coordination Responsibilities
- Core team member of the MTSS Team
- Review records of new students and coordinate the placement into a class/ follow-up with withdrawn students
- Organize the transition from 4th to 5th Grade
- Community involvement responsibilities
- local agencies (Children & Youth Services, MHMR, and other therapists/specialists)
Academic
- Parental contacts and coordinate parent/teacher meetings
- Special Education involvement throughout the referral and initial process
- Chapter 15/504 and GIEP Plan Coordinator
Direct Student Involvement- may include the following
- Individual Student Concerns – peer, academic, behavior, social concerns
- Group Meetings – social skills/peer relationships (behaviors, friendship), personal issues (separation/divorce), grief, anger management
- Whole class - peer relationship, study skills, testing, friendship, bullying, other issues as they arise (teacher, principal, MTSS referrals)
Guidance Events
- Every last Friday of the month while school is in session the counselors will be available from 9:30-10:30 for Coffee with the Counselors.
- Pantry/Clothing donation Dress Down Days
