School Counseling Department

he elementary school counselor can be seen in a variety of roles, some of which are noted below. The school counselors at Chipperfield Elementary can be reached by dialing (570) 424-9280, you can fax documents directly to the guidance office at (570) 421-0424. The counselors are available and ready to assist students, parents, staff, and our community agencies to promote social, academic, and behavior success for our students.

Role within Chipperfield Elementary

Communication

  • Meet with students, parents, staff, community agencies
  • Follow-up requests/inquiries
  • Coordinate referrals

Organizational and Coordination Responsibilities

  • Core team member of the MTSS Team
  • Review records of new students and coordinate the placement into a class/ follow-up with withdrawn students
  • Organize the transition from 4th to 5th Grade
  • Community involvement responsibilities
    • local agencies (Children & Youth Services, MHMR, and other therapists/specialists)

Academic 

  • Parental contacts and coordinate parent/teacher meetings
  • Special Education involvement throughout the referral and initial process
  • Chapter 15/504 and GIEP Plan Coordinator

Direct Student Involvement- may include the following

  • Individual Student Concerns – peer, academic, behavior, social concerns
  • Group Meetings – social skills/peer relationships (behaviors, friendship), personal issues (separation/divorce), grief, anger management
  • Whole class - peer relationship, study skills, testing, friendship, bullying, other issues as they arise (teacher, principal, MTSS referrals)
